Jurassic World Rebirth Unveils New Dino Threats for 2025
Universal Pictures has released the latest Jurassic World Rebirth trailer to wet our collective appetites before the film comes galloping into theaters over the Fourth of July weekend. Jurassic World Rebirth will hit theaters July 2, 2025, bringing a new beginning to the Jurassic Park franchise with a large helping of callbacks. Returning to the original Jurassic Park site, director Gareth Edwards’ film will star Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali on a high-stakes mission to unearth the genetic keys to a miracle drug—keys that may be protected by the creatures themselves.
Jurassic World Rebirth is the fourth film in the Jurassic World spinoff series, and the seventh film in the broader Jurassic Park franchise that kicked off with Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park in 1993. This time around, the franchise is in the hands of director Gareth Edwards, who previously directed 2014’s Godzilla. Screenwriter David Koepp is also returning to the Jurassic Park franchise for Rebirth, after previously writing both the first film and its sequel, The Lost World, in 1997.
The official synopsis from Universal describes Jurassic World Rebirth as taking place five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion. In that time, the ecosystem had become inhospitable to dinosaurs, with the few survivors of the population moving into closed equatorial rings to create a version of the ecosystems they once knew. Three of the largest known land, sea, and air dinosaurs each live in one of these biodomes. Genetic material from all three of these titans is believed to hold the key to a miracle drug that could save millions of lives.
Scarlett Johansson stars as Zora Bennett, a field operative brought in to lead a team of experts in a top-secret operation to infiltrate the biodome and extract the key genetic code that they need. The plan hits complications almost from the start, when they find the biodome to be occupied by a family out on a boating vacation. Their small vessel is destroyed by a large aquatic dinosaur, and the surviving family members are marooned on a seemingly deserted island that may have once been home to a hidden Jurassic Park research outpost. Dialogue from the trailer teases the worst: that this island was a dumping ground for “the worst of the worst.”
Meet the Mission Crew
A crew list would take up most of the space in this article, as Rebirth boasts an ensemble full of A-list talent. Johansson and Ali are joined by Rupert Friend as pharmaceutical company representative Martin Krebs, Jonathan Bailey as Henry Loomis, a paleontologist, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as the head of the stranded family, Reuben Delgado. Children Luna Blaise, David Iacano, and Audrina Miranda round out the Delgado family, and Bechir Sylvain also plays a member of the top-secret mission team. Ed Skrein and Philippine Velge have also been confirmed as being in the film, but no role information has been released.
All of the footage from the first trailer from February has been repurposed for this final installment, doubling down on a number of key impressions and reintroducing elements of dinosaur majesty. The trailer begins in what appears to be a high-pressure research lab, as a worker in a hazmat suit is surprised by a ravenous T Rex. “Code red! Help!” the worker screams—too late. From there, the trailer continues to set the tone: fast-paced action, nail-biting suspense, and, of course, the inevitable dinosaur attacks.
The trailer teases a number of the film’s most significant set pieces as well, including one major attempt at dinosaur egg-stealing involving what is most likely Quetzalcoatlus northropi, one of the largest flying creatures to ever exist. As one character describes it, “It’s a flying carnivore the size of an F-16.” Viewers also get a chance to reacquaint themselves with raptors, but get their first look at the mosasaur, a prehistoric sea creature. Dialogue in the trailer also suggests this island was once used to house Jurassic Park research subjects who were the most dangerous or volatile to have been cloned, “the worst of the worst.”
Jurassic World Rebirth is very much a fresh start to the franchise, but that doesn’t mean it’s steering too far from the familiar territory of past installments. Returning to the original Jurassic Park research island site is a clear callback to fans of the original films, while the “worst of the worst” new material has a flavor of the unexpected to keep things feeling fresh and unpredictable. It’s hard to say for certain whether Rebirth is the true reset of the Jurassic Park franchise, but the elements are all there to suggest that it might be, from an elite rescue team to high-concept science to moral gray areas and, of course, dinosaurs doing their thing.
The action is very much on full display in the trailer, with a number of different escape sequences featured, including characters running through dense jungles, taking cover in submerged wreckage, and otherwise outsmarting prehistoric creatures. Johansson, in particular, looks poised to lead this latest chapter into a grittier, more tactical direction.
Jurassic World Rebirth is set to open in theaters on July 2, 2025, and is already primed to take a dino-sized bite out of the Fourth of July box office.
