Ana de Armas Is Unstoppable in Ballerina’s Final Teaser
We’re only three weeks away from the release of From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, the Ana de Armas–led spin-off that will hopefully provide a new entry point into the John Wick franchise. In the months leading up to its release on June 6, 2025, Lionsgate has been steadily releasing new trailers for the action-packed film, and now, we’ve just gotten our third and final preview, which promises to be just as rousing and intoxicating as the rest of the John Wick saga.
Set around the same time as John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Ballerina finds its protagonist during the events of that third film in the franchise. That 2019 movie from director Chad Stahelski saw Keanu Reeves’ title character outlawed by the High Table and put on a multi-million-dollar hit list after he killed crime lord Santino D’Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio) on the grounds of the Continental Hotel. After being betrayed by those around him, Wick raced through New York City and the icy expanse of the Russian Compound before ultimately finding his way to the headquarters of the Ruska Roma crime family.
The Ruska Roma, led by the enigmatic Director (Anjelica Huston), would later become the site of one of the most dangerous and closely guarded training facilities for young ballerina-assassins in the John Wick universe. While in Parabellum there was a small sequence in which a young ballerina (played by Unity Phelan) was practicing on stage during a production of Swan Lake, now that character is the main focus of Ballerina, with Ana de Armas in the lead role.
Of course, a handful of other familiar faces will return for this John Wick spin-off, including Huston as the Director, Ian McShane as the Continental’s manager Winston, and Lance Reddick as Charon, the Continental’s perpetually obliging concierge. The latter, unfortunately, will be Reddick’s final appearance in the franchise, as the actor died from cancer in March 2023 at the age of 53.
At the same time, there’s also a slate of new characters making their debut in Ballerina that also bring a level of intrigue to the proceedings. Gabriel Byrne stars as the film’s villain, the Chancellor, who, in this film, attempts to use his power to turn an entire town against the ballerina. Sharon Duncan-Brewster plays Eve’s teacher Nogi, while Norman Reedus appears as Daniel Pine, and both Catalina Sandino Moreno and David Castañeda also have roles, though their parts have not been discussed publicly.
A Ferocious Story of Revenge Done Wick-Style
The first trailer for Ballerina was released in September of last year, which initially focused on the origin story of Eve, the movie’s lead. Orphaned as a young girl, Eve was seen swearing vengeance on those who had killed her father before subsequently joining the Ruska Roma herself. The teaser hinted that Ballerina would be a more character-driven and emotional story than the previous films, and the only look audiences got of John Wick in that first trailer was just for a split second.
That said, the second trailer released back in March of this year gave audiences more of what they were looking for: a gritty and tense scene set in a wintry, moody location in which Wick and Eve confront each other. While this new trailer didn’t show much in the way of plot details, it did solidify the idea that the two assassins will be on screen together for much of the runtime and that they may have something of an affinity for each other.
The final trailer for the film, then, is decidedly more aggressive and in-your-face than its predecessors. Opening on a harrowing image of Eve with Wick aiming at her from above, the preview shifts into overdrive as soon as the music hits. A minute-long montage, which stitches together both old and new footage, shows Eve in a flurry of violent encounters with each successive adversary that gets in her way. The sequences also feature a preponderance of fight choreography and gunfire, both of which have become a John Wick staple since the release of Chapter 2 – Redemption back in 2017.
Ana de Armas is up to the task in every way imaginable, as she performs the vast majority of her stunts while displaying a commitment to the role and the character’s physicality that is a rare find among performers in action films. It’s also noteworthy that the goal of Eve’s revenge is set out with a straight-faced line in the trailer, one that feels as bone-chilling as it does fun: “This isn’t done until they’re dead.”
