Annual Tree Giveaway Held by Operation PRIDE
Operation PRIDE hosted its annual tree giveaway event in Bowling Green, Kentucky. This year, the local organization partnered with International Paper to give away 165 free trees, along with mulch, to area residents.
Variety of Tree Species Offered
Participants in the tree distribution event had the opportunity to choose from several tree species. Options included white dogwood, sun valley maple, and more, giving residents a diverse selection for their properties.
Supporting Reforestation Efforts
Organizers emphasized the importance of the event for the region’s reforestation. Rick Williams, an Operation PRIDE board member, highlighted local demand for the trees and referenced the significant canopy loss experienced after the tornado in December 2023. “There’s a huge demand for them. Evidently, we had people lining up for them at 6 o’clock this morning. The tornado that we had here back in December 2023, we lost a lot of our canopy in this community, and it’s important that we try to build that back up,” Williams said.
Strong Community Response
The community’s enthusiasm for the giveaway was evident. According to organizers, the line for the event wrapped around the block, and all trees were claimed very early in the day. The strong turnout reflected residents’ commitment to restoring their local environment.
Partner Organizations and Continuing Updates
This year’s event was made possible by collaboration between Operation PRIDE and International Paper. For those who were unable to participate in this tree giveaway, organizers recommended staying tuned to News 40 for updates on the next community event.
